​Max Baumgart

Assistant Professor


Max Baumgart studied law in Berlin, Geneva and Cologne and - funded by the Hanns Seidel Foundation - obtained his doctorate in law in a double degree programme at the University of Basel and the University of Cologne. He spent a research period at UC Berkeley (USA) and already held teaching positions at CESL in Beijing (China) and Akureyri (Iceland). During this time, he worked as a managing research assistant at the Institute for Energy Law at the University of Cologne. His academic performance and dissertation were each awarded a prize. Max Baumgart spent his legal traineeship in Cologne, Vienna, Munich, Brussels and at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. Initially within the framework of a scholarship for further academic qualification, now as a post-doctoral researcher at the chair of Prof. Dr Torsten Körber, Max Baumgart researches and teaches at the University of Cologne in the fields of civil law, European law, antitrust and regulatory law and comparative law, most recently with a focus on digitalisation and sustainable transformation. He is the author of numerous publications, especially on energy law.
