Since 2013, lawyer Matthias Schroeder LL.M. has been the CEO of law-china.de, Schroeder Xiang & Partner in Beijing. Matthias grew up in Beijing and studied Law at Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany, and International Trade Law and Human Rights at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. In 2007, he became Head of Asia Desk for the law firm Beiten Burkhardt in Munich, Germany. In 2011, he joined the Beijing Office of the law firm Rödl & Partner as Head of Legal Department and moved back to Beijing. Previously, Matthias served as an expert to the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress for the Sino-German Legal Cooperation Programme (“Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit – GIZ”).
Matthias has been board member of the China-Forum Bavaria and is currently chairman of the Supervisory Board of a German listed company and member of the management board of the German Speed Reading Society. Since 2019 he is appointed by the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Lawyer of Trust to the Austrian Embassy in Beijing.
He speaks Chinese, English, German, French and Russian. At the China-EU School of Law, he teaches Litigation and Arbitration as well as Insolvency Law.
