Marieke Koekkoek

Teaching Assistant at the China-EU School of Law


Marieke Koekkoek is a research fellow at the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies (GGS) and Leuven University (KUL). She is working as a PhD candidate under the supervision of Professor Geert van Calster and Professor Cedric Ryngaert. Her research focusses on international trade measures resorting extraterritorial effect and the legitimacy of these measures from the perspective of WTO Law. Other research she conducted includes the relationship between principles of international law and WTO law, the use of transparency measures to combat labour right abuses in global value chains and the effects of Brexit from the perspective of international economic law. She worked as co-editor on the Oxford Reports on International Trade Law Decisions and has taught bachelor and master students on the Law of the World Trade Organization. In addition, she has worked as coordinator of the KUL Moot Court Program and coach for the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition.
