CESL Taster Lectures are officially underway

The China-EU School of Law (CESL) at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) it’ a law school approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People's Republic of China under the Sino-foreign Schools Agreement. Double Masters’ students begin their comprehensive studies in the LL.M. programme in European and International Law (MEIL) and will finish their first master thesis in European and international law. CESL offers CESL Taster Lectures from 2017/2018 academic year.

The LL.M. programme of European and International Law is designed to expose students to vast areas of the law in our globalised world from an European perspective. Focus will be placed on the trend towards global legal unification whilst exploring the importance of maintaining a balance between protecting existing legal traditions on one hand and promoting legal integration on the other. The programme includes four compulsory modules and one elective module. The compulsory modules are Public International Law and Human Rights, European Union Law, European Business Law and International Business Law.The Elective Module is held in both Europe Partner universities and Beijing.

The lecturers of the LL.M. programme of European and International Law come from CESL’s European partner universities. There have been 360European Flying Faculty members taught at CESL.

The first of the CESLTaster Lecture was taught by Prof.Bernard Tilleman. From 5th-9th March the Dean of the University of Leuven Law School in Belgium, Professor Bernard Tilleman, gave lectures on the Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG) to Master’s students at CESL. During the five-day lecture series, Professor Tilleman explained the general principles and practical effects of the CISG as well as the relationship between the CISGs and contract law in China ands everal other countries. The students benefited a lot from this comparative approach.

Professor Tilleman specialises in International Trade Law and in Corporate Law. He completed his study at Leuven, Harvard Law School and the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg. In the 1990s, he worked for the Belgian Prime Minister and the law firm Cleary-Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. He is also an attorney of the New York Bar.
