Wu Hongyao

Professor of Law at the China University of Political Science and Law


Prof. Wu Hongyao is a Professor of Law at the China University of Political Science and Law in Beijing, China, where he also received a master’s degree in law in 2002. He is Vice Director of the Academic Affairs Office and Director of the Criminal Trial Advocacy Center. Wu Hongyao co-founded the “Innocence project in China” and is Executive Chief Editor of the “Procedural Law Review” journal. His research and teaching focuses on Criminal Procedure Law, Evidence Law and the Death Penalty Clinic. Wu Hongyao has published widely in these fields. He also holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Zhengzhou University, China.

Wu Hongyao conducted research as a Visiting Scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law, Freiburg, Germany, the University of the West of England, UK, Yale Law School and Cornell Law School, USA, Kwansei Gakuin University and Osaka Bar Association, Japan, Korea University, Seoul, Korea, and the Vera Institute of Justice, New York, USA. His research has been honoured with several prizes and awards. He is affiliated with the China Law Society and the Police Investigation Branch of the China Behavior Law Association.
