In the 2nd semester of the 2016-2017 academic year, one-hundred students who study the Master of European and International Law Programme (MEIL) may apply to study the elective courses in CESL partner universities in Europe, which last for 3 weeks to 2 months, including 90 double master’s students from 2015 intake, 10 Chinese MEIL students from 2016 intake, accounting for 100% of the total number of students. CESL will pay for the costs of accommodation for students,organise and pay for travel medical and private liability insurance and provide certain amount of scholarship for the students’ stay in Europe. The scholarship is paid as a lump sum and cannot fully cover the costs incurred during the electives. The remaining costs must be covered by the students themselves. The concrete scholarship amount will be announced later.

The students studying in Madrid or Strasbourg may opt to stay one week longer. This is optional. During this extra week, students are responsible for organizing themselves and covering all costs, including accommodation. Access to the university library will be arranged for self-organized research.

Students shall send signed statement and the photo copy of the passport before 9:00 on February 16, 2017 to the CESLTeaching Administration via email meilelective2017@126.com. No changes can be made after submitting. A merit-based acceptance process combined with an oral English proficiency assessment will determine which students are placed where. Decision will be made based on the grades CESL students so far received in this year’s MEIL programme (grades published by February 15, 2017). Detail merit-based selection procedure for Vis Moot students and additional selection procedure for certain partner university’s elective courses are outlined in its respective section of the programme.
Those students applying for electives in Madrid or Strasbourg who would like to stay one week longer need to be indicate this in the signed statement, so that the time period is clearly noted on the invitation letter.
CESL will announce the placements on February 17, 2017.
Accompanying administration from CESL will be appointed by the co-deans from Beijing for electives inMadrid or Strasbourg.
