Studying law at Europe’s most traditional university: 31 CESL students arrive at Bologna

On 10 April 2016, 31 students from the China-EU School of Law’s European and International Law master’s programme started their elective courses at Bologna University, CESL’s partner in Italy, which is the oldest university in the Western world and has spawned professionals since 1088. For four weeks, they will examine “Current Issues on European Integration” at the university’s School of Law. They are accompanied by Guan Ying and Chen Yingfang from CESL’s administration.

Furthermore, they are guided by Dr Constantino Petridis and Susanna Villani. Arriving on campus, students were impressed by the School of Law’s ancient buildings. In the library, students got acquainted with opening times, the function of each area and how to use its resources. Bologna University had also given each student an account so that they can use wireless internet on campus as well as the library’s digital resources.

On the morning of 12 April, students met the European Law Center Director Professor Lucia Serena Rossi in the classroom. They attended lectures by Professor Giacomo di Federico, Carlo Tovo, Marko Milenkovic and Dr Mauro Gatti. The two tutors also helped them study during the tutorials.

Moreover, on the afternoon of 14 April, accepting an invitation of Johns Hopkins University, students attended a lecture on “Europe in Crisis: Reasons and Solutions” by Miguel Maduro who was Advocate General at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg from 2003 to 2009.
