Professor Bernard Tilleman teaches CISG law

From 5 to 9 March, Professor Bernard Tilleman, Dean of the University of Leuven Law School in Belgium, gave lectures on CISG to master’s students at the China-EU School of Law.

During the five-day lecture, Professor Tilleman explained the general principles and practical effects of the Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG) as well as the relationship between the CISG and the Contract Law of several countries - amongst them China. The students benefited a lot from this comparative approach.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Tilleman welcomed the students to visit the University of Leuven, or even to enroll and pursue a degree from the University. He also expressed his expectations to deepen the cooperation between the China-EU School of Law and University of Leuven Law School. Students showed great interest both in CISG and the study and cultural life in Belgium.

Professor Tilleman is specializing in International Trade Law and Corporate Law. He completed his study at Leuven, Harvard Law School and the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg. Bernard is an attorney at the New York Bar. In the 1990s, he worked for the Belgian Prime Minister and the law firm Cleary-Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.
