Open lecture: The interactions between law and art

Prof. Bert Demarsin from KU Leuven Law School in Belgium held an open lecture titled "Interactions between law and art: international trade in art and cultural heritage” at the China-EU School of Law on 8 March. In this lecture, he pointed to the fact that international trade in art and cultural heritage might be and often is dangerous business, due to the risks that are inevitably linked to this kind of objects. He presented the challenges faced by lawyers from all around the globe with the use of a number of real cases.

Prof. Bert Demarsin’s research career includes stays at Stanford Law School, USA, and Panthéon-Sorbonne University – Paris 1, France. His research areas focus on comparative art law, comparative contract law, tort law and property law as well as the related issues of private international law. At the China-EU School of Law, he teaches mainly in the field of International Sale of Goods (CISG).
