On August 29, 2021, the China-EU School of Law (CESL) at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) welcomed new students to the campus. The 2021 intake of CESL graduate students, both from the Master of European and International Law (MEIL) and double master students, met in front of the International Exchange Center on the Changping campus of CUPL in Beijing.
At 7 a.m., volunteers from the law school gathered and began their preparations for welcoming the new students - picking up supplies and laying out the different tables. The volunteers were full of enthusiasm to meet their new classmates.
At 9 a.m., the new students began arriving on the scene, and the welcoming officially began. The new 2021 intake lined up in an orderly fashion and filled out some forms related to their admission. The volunteers guided the new students, carried out a few precautionary Covid checks such as checking temperatures and “health codes", gave them new student identification, collected certain admissions materials, and also issued them with "new student gift packages"! The friendly greetings, helpful answers and caring service of the volunteers created a collegial atmosphere for the new students. This helped the new CESL students immediately have the right impression of their future studies and life as members of the law school, being amongst friends. Ms. Li Shuang was also present to assist the new student’s matriculation, and help solve any issues, and provide administrative support support. Ms. Ma Anna and Ms. Li Xiaolu were also there for the new MEIL students, and were checking the necessary admission documentation to ensure the integrity of the registering student’s submissions.
While most of the preliminary work was carried out, Prof. Liu Fei, Chinese Co-Dean of CESL, and Zhai Xiaohua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, also came to the scene. Dean Liu Fei kindly reminded the counselors and students to pay attention to some relevant details regarding their first entry to the campus.
As noon time approached, volunteers stuck on their posts to diligently continue welcoming the new students even during lunchtime where they had simply meals on site. At about 4 p.m., the MEIL student's reporting was successfully completed. At about 5 p.m., the reporting of double master's student also concluded, and the day's work was successfully completed.
CESL warmly thanks all the dedicated volunteers for their full support of the law school work, their enthusiasm, most sincere welcome and friendly blessings for the new students. Over the next three years, these classmates will grow together as colleagues and friends!
