CESL 2020 New Student Orientation

On the afternoon of September 9, 2020, the China-EU School of Law launched its first new student orientation activity. The 2020 freshmen and foreign professors exchanged ideas on European and international law courses both in 305 Mingfa Building building of CUPL campus as well as online.

First of all, European Executive Co-Dean Monty Silley, Professor Monika Prusinowska, and Professor  Susan Wintermuth expressed their welcome to the 2020 freshmen.

Professors Prusinowska and Wintermuth then explained the European and international law courses and expressed their expectations for the future classmates. Prof. Prusinowska briefly introduced the related content of open lectures, online seminars and conferences and mooting activities to everyone, and encouraged everyone to participate actively and exercise their professional English by finding ways and materials of interest to them.

Prof. Wintermuth encouraged students to break the traditional "Chinese-style classroom" model, to actively think and speak in the classroom, to participate and interact with their teachers, and promptly ask questions.

Later, European Executive Co-Dean Monty Silley said that during this special period of epidemic prevention and control, foreign Faculty will work hard to break through any obstacles and communicate with everyone through online courses and the use other internet technology, they will still be available and engaged, so that everyone can take advantage of the School’s rich opportunities and resources for learning.

Finally, the Professors introduced some tips to improve their legal English, research and writing skills, and recommended podcasts and other software to help students get a head start, and be fully prepared for the subsequent European and internartional law courses to come.

In the Q&A session, the students actively shared their thoughts and asked questions about the courses, curriculum, studying, finding legal sources, etc., and they received patient and detailed answers to each question.

This European and international law courses will be carried out in a synchronized way with both online and offline components. At the beginning of the new semester, in this special period of epidemic prevention, I hope everyone will devote themselves to the course study on the basis of personal protection and ensuring campus safety, so as to lay a solid foundation for future development!
