On 10 November 2018 the China-EU School of Law (CESL) and the International Education School of the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) co-organised a cultural communication activity in the “Wujiapu Miyun Sanshao” Cultural Experience Hall in Miyun district.
At the beginning of the activity, Ms. Li Guanglian, the cultural inheritor of Beijing Miyun Sanshao and the chairman of Beijing Hongfu Catering Management Co. Ltd., welcomed us on behalf of the staff at Miyun Sanshao Culture Experience Hall. She first explained the purpose of the event so that we would understand the characteristics of Chinese food customs activity in her hope that we would inherit and develop the food culture and skills of traditional Chinese civili sations and local Chinese civilisations. She stressed that we should eat healthy diets and live a green life and then wished us an enjoyable visit.
During the activity we tasted and then tried to make our own Miyun Shaobing (a kind of pie). Teaching us how to make them gave us a taste of the history and culture behind the Miyun Shaobing tradition.
Next, we learned about the culture of Miyun Shaojiu (a kind of wine) and Shaorou (a kind of meat) and finally, we were shown other old objects displayed in the hall, which represented the past customs of the Miyun District.
The Miyun Sanshao Cultural Experience Hall explains the cultural craftsmanship and process of traditional cooking and shows visitors the traditional methods of making Shaobing. More importantly, during this activity Chinese and European students tasted and made traditional, local Chinese cuisine together and talked about Chinese folk culture and history - making this cultural communication activity a beautiful and meaningful event.
