Human Rights and EU Labour Law: Elective students in Maastricht

On 15 April 2018, eight students of the China-EU School of Law who had chosen to participate in the elective course program at Maastricht University arrived at the university in the Netherlands and began their two-month study trip. The group included Ma Jiayu, Duan Tingxi, Fei Yinbo, Si Junling, Yu Ping, Piao Rongxuan, Gan Jiaqi, and Yu Qi. The students have elected courses on Human Rights and Human Development, Comparative Corporate Governance, Economic and Monetory Union, and European Labour and Social Security Law.

After a 10-hour flight, the eight students arrived at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam at 5:30 in the morning local time, then took a train to the south and arrived at Maastricht, an ancient and beautiful town. After arriving at the dormitory, the students successfully checked in with the assistance of the security guard.

On 16 April, the students went to the Faculty of Law of Maastricht University, where they warmly welcomed by Ms. Josta Mommertz. Ms. Mommertz invited the students for a visit around the building and the garden, and kindly answered the questions raised by the students. At 10:30 the next morning, the students visited former CESL European Co-dean Professor Aalt Willem Heringa in his office. Prof. Heringa asked the students about the elective courses and introduced the history of the building of the school.

When the courses started, the students participated with great passion, actively communicating with the professors and other students. "We are very excited about the upcoming two months", one student said.
