Prof. Wintermuth in jury of “8th National Legal English Language Contest”

On 5 November 2017, the "8th National Legal English Language Contest" was held at the China University of Political Science and Law’s Changping Campus. Participants from 42 universities, a total of 299 students and legal practitioners, competed. Prof. Susan-Gale Wintermuth from the China-EU School of Law, who is both an English native speaker and holds a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Arizona, USA, was a member of the jury consisting of Chinese law professors and practitioners from law firms and courts. She tested each contestant with questions after his or her speech. Han Leyi from the East China University of Politics and Law and Liu Yiming from the China University of Political Science and Law won the first prize in the “Legal Essay Contest”. Ma Jinduo from the China University of Political Science and Law ranked first in the “Spoken Legal English Contest”. They won an internship at Beijing Zhong Yin Law firm.

The Chinese "National Legal English Language Contest" showcases the legal English talents of students. This year’s competition was hosted by the China University of Political Science and Law’s School of Foreign Languages. Co-organisers included Beijing International Studies University's School of International Law, All China Lawyers Association‘s Foreign Affair Committee, Legal English Certificate Test Advisory Committee and the China Behavior Law Association Legal Translation Center.
