Professor Nicolas Nord from the University of Strasbourg and Associate Professor Gustavo Cerqueira from the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne presented their new book “International Sale of Goods” in Reims on 13 September 2017. In this volume, nine European and Chinese academics and practitioners examine which contracts govern Sino-European trade. The main purpose is to identify the consequences of European rules on Chinese companies and vice versa. Around 80 participants attended the book launch at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne.

"Contrary to what is often assumed, it is not the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) that governs the most significant part of Sino-European trade but other national regulations and international instruments”, says Nicolas Nord. “Today, the European Union is China’s largest trading partner and China is the EU’s second largest partner after the USA. Accordingly, international sale of goods contracts can be considered as one of the main legal tools governing Chinese-European commercial exchanges.”

The book, “International Sale of Goods”, provides the first comparative analysis of both systems in English. It is a result of the "International Sale of Goods" Symposiums at the China-EU School of Law in Beijing on 20and 21 June 2016 and is published in the China-EU Law Series in cooperation with the publishing house Springer.
