Over twenty China-EU School of Law will take an intensive three-week course on “European and Comparative Law” at the Autonomous University of Madrid’s Faculty of Law. From 4 to 23 June 2017 they are participating in courses such as “The path towards an European area of justice in civil matters”, "Right to privacy versus freedom of speech” and “In search of a new welfare state – an international perspective” to gain a total of six creditpoints. Lecturers are Prof. Nuria Bermejo Gutiérrez, Prof. Domingo Jiménez-Valladolid, Prof. Elena Rodríguez Pineau, Prof. Sebastián López Maza, Prof. Gemma Minero and Prof. Borja Barragué. Student assistant Virginia Vegas acts as a local guide to help students find their way around campus.

In their first class, “How to litigate before the General Court of the EU” taught by Prof. Nuria Bermejo Gutiérrez, the China-EU School of Law students sit side by side not only with students from Spain but also with international students coming from Great Britain and other countries. “The Spanish characteristics of teaching such as discussions as a method of learning and the diversity in the classroom are impressive,” says one Chinese student. Their second class is “Cross-border taxation within the European Union” with Prof. Domingo Jiménez-Valladolid. “He gave a very vivid and often funny account of tax law, I was quite surprised that we laughed so much in a tax law course,” the student said afterwards.
