Electives: CESL students in Strasbourg

On 1 May 2017, 23 double master’s students from the China-EU School of Law (CESL) arrived in Strasbourg, France. They take a three-week elective course on Consumer Protection Law at the University of Strasbourg from 2 to 21 May. Most students stay one week longer for research.

The study trip is part of the Master of European and International Law. Professor Nicolas Nord from the University of Strasbourg, Dr Erdős István from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary, and Professor Gemma Minero from the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain, teach the course.

On arrival, students and Li Xiaolu, CESL accompany staff, were welcomed by Ye Hongtao, a PhD candidate at the University of Strasbourg.

The first week was taught by Professor Nicolas Nord who also showed students around the campus and the law library and gave an introduction to study life at the University of Strasbourg. "The library of course is one of the most important buildings at a university”, student Liu Jiaojiao said.

"Unfortunately, most of the books and journals in the library are in French. I was moved by the fact, that the French love their language so much."

On campus, there are not many Asian students, student Zhou Yibei tells. "Thus, we cannot understand what the people around us are talking about. However, the peaceful and calm atmosphere as well as the mild climate, makes the students feel relaxed."

In addition to courses at the University of Strasbourg, students will visit the Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights and the European Parliament. They will also visit the Chinese Department of the University of Strasbourg and the International Center of Intellectual Property (CEIPI).
