Open Lecture: the Common Core of legal systems

On 1 March 2017, the China-EU School of Law (CESL) hosted one of its Open Lectures. Professor Michael Bogdan from Lund University brought up the question whether various legal systems have, in fact, a common core, despite different cultures, history and all the other factors impacting them. He gave an introduction to the empirical efforts to answer this question of a common core. He also raised the question of whether it is possible to predict a future convergence of the various legal systems.

Professor Michael Bogdan from Lund University joined the China-EU School of Law as a new faculty member in February 2017. Born in former Czechoslovakia, he earned his first law degree JUDr. in Prague. Since 1968, he has been living in Sweden where he became a Professor of Comparative and Private International Law in 1995. Prof. Michael Bogdan teaches “Conflict of Laws” within the Master of European and International Law.
