Lund Cathedral: European Co-Dean Prof. Bengt Lundell is given an honorary doctorate by Lund University

On 25thMay 2018 the European Co-Dean Prof. Bengt Lundell was given an honorary doctorate from Lund University in a ceremony held at the Lund Cathedral.

Prof. Lundell had joined the Faculty of Law of in 1993, since then he has become a cornerstone of the faculty’s development in education and research within the public law sphere. Prof. Lundell (born 1951) earned a PhD from the Department of Political Science at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Lund in 1987 with his thesis “Kommunerna och MBL (Municipalities and the Co-Determination Act)”. For many years, Prof. Lundell has made invaluable contributions to the internationalization efforts at the Faculty of Law as well as at Lund University in a broader sense. He was one of the participants of the Sida-financed project“, Strengthening” Legal Education in Vietnam, a cooperation project in education and research between the Faculty of Law in Lund and two Vietnamese universities between 1998 and 2011. Throughout this period especially in its third phase, he held a leading position in this very successful project. Cooperation with the Vietnamese universities has continued after the conclusion of the project. Prof. Lundell is also an Honorary Professor at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law. Since 2008, he has had key assignments within the China-EU School of Law (CESL). In 2017, Prof. Lundell was appointed European Dean of CESL. In many other contexts, he has also made extensive and essential contributions to the development of cooperation with countries and universities in Asia, on behalf of both Lund University and the Faculty of Law.
